Dual monitors GPU or Mobo

Should I connect my monitors through DVI-I and HDMI on my GPU or just DVI-I on the GPU and DVI-D on the motherboard?
Does this have any performance impact?

the external gpu must be more powerfull then the onboard so i would use it to both monitor .
