non computer expert seeks help with windows 10 update 1607

My computer tells me it need to install Win 10 Version 1607, I have tried to do this several (20+) times and every time when it gets to the final restart it shuts down and then restarts but all it dose is shows a black screen with a spinning little dots. I thought maybe i was being impaitent and not allowing it to finish. So I left it over night 12+ hours and still spinning in the morning. Only way to stop it is to unplug it and take the battery out, then replace battery and turn on. Then I get a black screen that tells me my recent update failed and it is restoring my previous version of windows. HELP I dont know what to do!!!

Download the mediacreation tool get the ISO use rufus to put it on a flash drive then boot from it

Never 10 gives you control over whether Windows 7 or 8.1 will upgrade itself to Windows 10

Thank you for your reply but nothing you said above makes any sense to me. I do not know what a media creation tool, or ISO are. I do know what a flash drive is but have never used one.

This system currently has Win 10, but the 1607 update fails?

1. How large is the OS drive, and how much free space do you have?
2. As above, create you own install DVD or USB. Biit from that and start the 'install' process.
Select "Keep Everything" when it asks.
This is almost exactly the same thing as what would happen with the 1607 update.

Assuming, of course, Win 10 is already installed and activated on this system.
