My screen goes black when i try to put on 144hz please help

i just got a gtx 1050 2gb, My monitor is an AOC g2450fq and i use a dual link dvi (DVI-D) i have installed the drivers for my graphics card but when i switch to 144hz and hit apply it just goes black for a few seconds and then switches back to 60hz and i don't know why. I really want to play at 144hz

Is the DVI-D cable one that came with it? Have you tried using a different cable? Or a Display Port cable?
Some cheap cables can cause these issues.

I bought the Dvi-d cable because only an hdmi came in the box and i haven't tried another cable other than the hdmi but it doesn't support 144hz

Does it work in 120hz?
May be your cable is not dual link capable?
Try Display Port connection.

I agree, try a display port cable, if it works return the DVI-D.

I'm not finding any specs on AOC g2450fq. Did you mistype the model number?

It is probably AOC g2460fq.
