Hey I have Windows 10 pro 64bit , I came from Windows 8 64 bit pro, with Microsoft's upgrade program 1 month ago, how to downgrade from 10 to 8 without losing my data ? I don't care about settings, also I care only for my data. Thanks

Solution
If the Windows.old folder was renamed, it can be changed back even after that time. The 30 day trial where you could easily downgrade via an app is also not active, if windows 10 was bought as retail version.

backup all your important data, be sure to write down your windows licence key before doing anything:

to downgrade (if the normal way was unsuccessful) you can use:

Back up your data to another hard drive or to optical discs before reverting to Windows 8.

If your data is important you should always keep it backed up anyway instead of waiting until you are going to change the OS or whatever. All drives fail eventually so you need to be prepared for that all the time.

Exactly. You should ALWAYS have multiple copies of your data stored in various different physical locations.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS back up your data.

I'm going to be totally honest and say that right now I only have 4 copies of my data.

1. Hard drives connected to my PC
2. Hard drive in a closet in the front room
3. Hard drive at my youngest daughter's house
4. Hard drive at my oldest daughter's house

I have been thinking about putting a copy of my data in the cloud but I just don't know how much it would cost to maintain approx. 4 terabytes of ata at a reliable cloud server. I need to do more homework on that.
