Which Sata to use?

Hi.
I have a Gigabyte Z270-Gaming K3 Motherboard. What i would like to know is which SATA ports do i use to plug in a dvd drive and a HDD? (both are SATA) I've read the manual so many times but i just don't get it.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

It does not matter.
But just for consistency, I always use the lowest number one for the OS drive.
Either 0 or 1.

Now...if you are also using an m.2 drive, things change a little. But that is outlined in your user manual, page 15.
