Should i either earn another $150 and buy a new motherboard and an i7-4790k or should i earn another $300-400 and buy a Ryzen 7 1700X, new motherboard and replace the ddr3 ram with ddr4 because the motherboards are only ddr4?
Note: Unless there is a significant performance increase, cheaper is better

It is a very bad time to buy used intel stuff and even worse to buy it new. The prices are still high. If AMD has a good performer, the prices will come down. Especially used prices.

If AMD flops, the prices will stay the same and you will have simply wasted a couple weeks waiting. It is worth the wait. If AMD has a winner, you can get a strong 8 core 16 thread ship for $300-600. That is amazing, especially considering their lowest cost 8c/16t chip costs less than what I bought my 4790k for.

That said, I will be sticking with my 4790k. I already have it and it is fast. Any new builds will have ryzen considered, especially if it turns out to perform as they claim.
