Wait for 1080ti, or go with the normal??

So the thing is, I bought an asus 1080 (not pre-oc) and the box is unopened. this is because the motherboard I bought was defect, I'm going to send it back. So my question is, should I send back the normal 1080, and then buy a 1080ti, or should I keep the normal 1080?

The build I have now is;
Cpu - Intel I5-7600k
ram - 16gb 2300Mhz
mobo - Asus maximus viii gene
case - Fracal design nano s

Keep in mind that i have not tried the setup, I just have the parts for the build. This is because the mobo is ordered, and not delivered.

What resolution are you running? If your at 1440p I'd stick with the GTX 1080 bu if you're pushing 4k then I'd wait for the 1080 TI
