Situation: MSI GeForce GTX 1050 2GB Video Card has a DPI-D and HDMI port, monitor has a VGA and HDMI port. I have a DPI-I, VGA adaptor but the DPI-I port is in the mobo and I've heard that you're not supposed to plug the monitor into that. I tried just using an HDMI cable to connect video card to the monitor, but it said no signal. Why is this happening, and what's the best solution?

Background: I just built the PC with new parts. Fan for CPU and video card are working/spinning. Monitor and VGA cable are new as well. Planning to use the computer for FPS gaming

Today I connected the HDMI cable to the GPU and my tv and it worked fine. Tried it again with my monitor and it also worked. I don't know what was going on yesterday.
