I bought my wife a laptop sometime ago equivalent to the link below, though with Windows 8 at the time. I would never buy a retail laptop but she needed one at the time and for the price, it was the best option. However, now that she is getting into photography and such, I am building her a desktop. Though I've done it with Windows 7, I am hearing that new laptops (specifically anything Windows 8 and newer) cannot be cloned to a hard drive to be used on a desktop. It would be easier to make this happen for my situation but if I cannot, it is not a deal breaker. I have a backup Windows 7 key that I would install on the laptop after it is wiped. Since my wife is so use to 10 I was hoping to keep that. I have experience with several different programs, specifically Macrium. Let me know.

No, you cannot clone a laptop OS to be used in a desktop.
It would almost certainly not boot, and if it did, it will run into activation issues.

Is this Win 10? If so, link that OS license to a Microsoft account. Read and do this:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3164428/windows-build-1607-activation.html

Create your own Win 10 install, here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Do a clean install on the new desktop, and follow the above links for activation.
