If I upgrade to GTX 1070, do I go 1080p 144hz G-Sync or 1440p? IPS or TN

Hi all,

System specs below:

i5 4670k @ 4.2GHz w/Corsair h100i GTX
MSI Gaming 5 Z-97 MOBO
16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz
nVidia GTX970 - Soon to be a GTX 1070 of some kind

I just want some advice on what you think I should do with my monitor. At the minute with the 970 I'm just running a 1080p 60hz monitor. Nothing special at all. If I get myself a GTX1070 I want to upgrade my monitor to something a bit nicer. Do I go for something that's 1080p 144hz with g-sync or do I look at 1440p?

Either way has anyone got any monitor suggestions? Recommendations?

What games do you play?

If you are doing a lot of BF1 or CS:GO or Overwatch I'd go 1080p 144Hz. Fast paced shooters are great with fast refresh rates.

If you are doing a lot of single-player games like The Witcher or Skyrim or GTA I would go for 1440p 60Hz.

IPS vs TN is only really a discussion for 1440p as 1080p 144Hz IPS doesn't exist. If you go the 1440p route I would look into specific panels to determine how well their implementation of IPS/AVHA/VA works and doesn't have major IPS glow or backlight bleed issues.

Hi timeconsumer
I play a little of everything but mainly ARMA 3, BF4/1, Wildlands, War Thunder however I do play and enjoy things like Witcher 3, Skyrim, GTA of which I own and have played all of them!

But mainly FPS games are my priority players.
