Hdmi to vga adapter

Hey! I just got a gtx 1060 and my monitor only has a vga entrance. So I'm using an active hdmi-vga adapter which overheats. Thing is, is it safe to use one or what's the best thing I should do? I fear for both my monitor and gpu

If it just runs really warm, you are fine, but if you seriously think the adapter is overheating, like too hot to touch, better to be safe and replace it.

I would buy a new monitor, if it's only got D-SUB it must be an old one anyway.

Thing is I'm on Argentina and haven't got the money to buy a new monitor
