Best linux distro for a PC intended for movie streaming?

So I currently have an old laptop that I don't use for my school anymore, so I thought that I'd set it up with my TV to stream movies. However, it's sometimes being really slow, and not responding really well. So I was thinking that instead of running windows it might be better with a linux distribution in performance.

I'd prefer if it's compatible with chrome, since it's my main browser.

The laptop: Asus UL30A, it's got a U7300 intel cpu at 1.3GHz
