144hz vs 165hz ?

Can a monitor expert tell me the pros and cons of overclocking a monitor to 165hz rather than the intended 144hz? Other than the increased refresh rate, can anything else happen to the monitor?

If the monitor will work perfectly without any issues on 165hz then why isn't that the default setting?

Are you talking about the Asus PG279Q? Usually when then say overclock to 165hz it means it's not guaranteed to achieve that refresh rate without issue. Some monitors of the same make and model may have issues with colors or contrast at 165hz, some may not. Some may even not achieve 165hz at all. It could also add heat, which I hope any monitor that advertises 165hz is prepared to deal with. That said I have not heard about any issues getting to or running the PG279Q at 165hz, although many of the reviews I have read question if it actually makes a noticeable difference versus 144hz.

No. Actually this is the monitor I'm looking at: http://a.co/2ckGxyh It's only 6 months old, but very nice specs. I'll be using it with a 1080.
