I want to connect chrome cast to my desktop.

As I understand it, Chrome Cast connects via your router... so any wireless device connected on the router can access it. But my desktop is connected to the router via Ethernet, is there a way of setting up a WAP associated with my PC so it can communicate with the Chrome dongle? Even if it mean wireless enabling my PC but without losing the LAN connection to the router.

Any device on the network can connect to the chromecast, ethernet or wifi. I chromecast from my ethernet desktop all the time to a wifi chromecast.

ChromeCast talks to the router, PC talks to the router....no problem.
No WAP weirdness needed on your PC.

Any device on this same internal LAN should be able to talk to the ChromeCast.
