Best Gaming Monitor Within Budget?

Hey guys, I'm looking for a new monitor to go with my build, I've seen Staples carrying an Asus MG248Q for about 350 CAD, that's 144hz refresh and 1ms response at 24" but sitting in 1080p. I know that my build should have no problems running 144hz and 1440p, but what's the best compromise that I could/should make here? I definitely want a higher refresh than 100hz, so anywhere from 120 to 144 is fine by me, but is 1440p that important to have as well? I realize that if I dont get 1440p I won't be using the full potential of my build, but I also need to fit everything into the budget. Right now I'm running with a Dell IPS monitor, 60hz and 1080p, it's been good to me but it's time to ditch the old girl. Currently I'm thinking about 1600-1800$ for the computer, and I'm not sure what my monitor budget will end up being, but I'm giving it a solid 400$ cushion, I might be able to stretch a LITTLE bit past that though. Any reccomendations to fit the price with a good display? I mostly play FPS or RTS games, Counter strike, LoL, things of that nature, so the higher refresh and low input lag is important to me. Thanks in advance!

That one is a bit out of my price range, I'm in CAD not USD like I said so that's about 600$ for me. I saw the g257hu though, it's an IPS monitor almost identical to the one you suggested, 4ms response and 25" instead, which isn't bad considering that IPS can get lower total input lag than a TN, correct? https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009728 is it worth it? Or should I go for the asus MG248Q that's in store here since theyre almost the same price?
