Hi,

I'm planning to buy a new rx 480, but I only have an old monitor as of yet, which only has a VGA input, and it only supports 720p. (I know the card is overkill, but I don't have the money for a new monitor).
Would this adapter work? http://www.ebay.com/itm/DisplayPort-DP-Male-to-VGA-Female-Video-Converter-Adapter-Cable-for-PC-Laptop-TV-/401234338281?hash=item5d6b6e21e9:g:CpwAAOSwo4pYmSME

It says it supports a minimum of 1080P resolution at 24bpp, 50/60HZ at 15 meters, so does that mean it won't work at all? Or can anyone recommend a good digital to vga converter? Also I can only use ebay, because amazon won't ship here.

I'm building a whole new system and I already have the monitor. An adapter still seems cheaper than a new display. So you're saying I shouldn't bother with adapters at all?

well you will need to bother with them if you need to get you monitor to work with it. just saying a monitor may end up being a cheaper upgrade and when you get your new GPU you don't have to put extra money into buying an adapter. also the "active" adapters cost way more then any generic ones

How about this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/DisplayPort-DP-to-VGA-Active-Adapter-AMD-Eyefinity-multi-monitors-supported-/282325458630?var=&hash=item41bbe89ec6:m:mRZDmuIqrfzeqhW4Tc0s5qQ
I'm on a really tight budget and that's why I don't want to risk getting a more expensive one which might not work.

My problem is that I can't afford a new monitor and a new pc at once, and I was thinking that I could use the old one until I get a new one with freesync. Thanks for answering this quickly!
