Windows Start Menu, File Explorer, and Google Chrome freeze at key stroke

So I ran into this problem the other day where after I open Google Chrome and type a letter, the program freezes. I don't know why, but I checked the windows start menu and that would not search like normal when I typed into it. After that, I tired to test the file explorer and the same result happened. How do I fix this problem? It would be a problem with Windows right?

try this

right click start button
choose command prompt (admin)
type SFC /scannow and press enter

this scans system files and may fix this behaviour

try a clean boot and see if problem persists, if it doesn't it means its caused by a start up program so need to selectively readd them to find cause.
