It's my first time building a new PC for an all-rounder purpose, i.e. work, entertainment and gaming (only battlefield 1 for now - i'm not much of a gamer). I'm stuck on choosing a decent budget monitor. The IPS/TN, the response times, the hz speed and resolution are areas where I could definitely do with some advice to pick the best solution for me.

Can you confirm which monitor would be better from the following 2:

AOC G2460PF
24 Inch
1920x1080
144hz
1ms response
Panel: TN
£228.00

Asus VX24AH
24 inch
2560x1440
60hz
5ms response
Panel: IPS
£210.00

I'm not worried about the price difference but I can't seem to make my mind up as to which monitor would do Battlefield 1 justice! I want to try AOC for the amazing refresh rate of 144hz and super fast 1ms response time but then I simply can't overlook the 1440p res on the Asus model which too is an IPS. Which of these would give me the better and smoother gaming experience on a 24" screen?

Also I know if I mention photoshop as one of the uses i might be told the IPS would be the best choice for colour range. I don't want this to be taken into account as my usage is very basic like cutting images or working on basic colours which I have had no problems using the TN on my current laptop monitor.

My first build would be:
i7-7700k
Geforce GTX 1060 6 GB
or GTX 1070 (which is my 1st choice but puts me out of my budget)

I don't know if the following will help in determining the display quality but will be using:

MSI Z170A KRAIT GAMING 3X ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Solution
1440p is better suited to 27” screens than 24”. TN screens are best suited to gamers. You get tearing if the refresh rate isn't high enough to match the game's frame rate. That's why people choose 144hz. The response time can be lower on TN screens than on IPS, so pixels change colour quicker which gamers need.

Also consider the BenQ XL2411 144hz Flicker-free £250. The AOC isn't flicker-free so some people will get headaches.

Do you mean it would be the best match for my configuration? I will getting a Asus 1060 6gb gpu - i7 7700k cpu - 16 gig ram

My only other concern is whether 144hz monitor would cause lag/tearing whilst playing game with the above selected GPU. Or is the GPU tough enough?

A lot has changed since 15th March....I'm now going for the 1080ti SC aftermarket card from EVGA.

My current choice of display is the Acer XF270HU 27.0" 2560x1440 144Hz Monitor (IPS). Since I am purchasing a pretty solid GPU I thought i'd leave G-sync out. Looking at the 1080ti benchmarkss, for the games I will be playing I will be able to manage betweeen 75-100 fps in ultra settings. Considering this would I benefit from G-Sync? As I understand G-sync is best known for smoothing out gameplay visuals for lower performing FPS what i am not sure about is whether it helps generally in overall gameplay regardless of fps counts.
