Hello, i have the benQ xl 2411 which only supports 144hz @1080p through DVI-D

the gpu i have does NOT have a dvi-d slot, i wanted to ask if a display port to dvi-d adapter will run on 144hz?

can someone please help me out here?

It certainly should. DP supports 144Hz/1080p (and did from DP1.0/1.0a), and DVI-D (dual link) does too - both digital signals.

Your signal isn't touched/converted at all, you're just using a different connector - shouldn't be a problem.

The only time this would be an issue is when the source was unable to output at that refresh rate (ie HDMI pre 2.0) where your GPU could output <120Hz.

So as DP and DVI-D can both run 144hz, using a DP to Dvi adapter will not limit the refresh rate?

looking at the reviews on all these adapters and convertors, none of them can run 144hz.. is there any other way?

I've seen reviews on all DP to DVI-D cables and adapters, none of them run above 60hz... i bought this monitor just to run games on 144hz refresh rate, i might have to exchange the monitor which is a hassle

Exchange if you want, but I'm not sure here those reviews are coming up with that (nor where you're seeing these reviews).

There are multiple DVI revisions.

DVI-A (single link, analog)
DVI-I (single, digital + analog)
DVI-I (dual link, digital + analog)
DVI-D (single, digital)
DVI-D (dual, digital)

For >60Hz, you need a source capable (so DisplayPort is fine) and run to DVI-D (dual) cable & capable monitor.

If you're seeing people reviewing limited to 60Hz, you're looking at (and they've bought) DP to DVI-D (single), not DVI-D (Dual) - this can happen in error, or via blatant misrepresentation from sellers.

Looking back at my original suggestions, I've actually made the same mistake & linked DP to DVI-D (single)....
To show you what the pins should look like, look here: http://www.cabledepot.com/05MByCoDVI.html

This one has the pins for DVI-D (dual), but the extra pins in the middle (see pics, DVI-D single vs DVI-D dual) are fairly commonly faked (and as the answered questions indicate, it can't run above 60Hz @ 1080p.... so it's DVI-D single, deceptively posing as dual). https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-Support-Connecting-Projectors-Displays/dp/B00B2HOVAA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490108195&sr=8-1&keywords=displayport+to+DVI-D+dual

This one is mini-DP to DVI-D (dual) and, even though you'd need yet another cable (mini-DP to full DP), it would work out cheaper if it's legit. It's clearly labelled dual on the device itself, but I've never heard of the brand, and there's no reviews.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Electronics-Photo/LINDY-DisplayPort-DVI-D-Adapter-Splitter/B01F0VYI5G/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1490108195&sr=8-4&keywords=displayport+to+DVI-D+dual

Paired with: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rankie-Plated-DisplayPort-MiniDP-Resolution/dp/B01J8GUH5O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490108624&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=mini%2BDP%2Bto%2BDP&th=1

5.29 for mDP to DP and then 40.80 for DP to DVI-D (dual) = 46 quid or so.

You're looking at ~80 quid for a straight cable that can do the job:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-BizLink-DisplayPort-Adapter-Powered/dp/B003XYBA72/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1490108195&sr=8-7&keywords=displayport+to+DVI-D+dual

There are other 'off' brands for cheaper, but I can't confirm whether they are legit or fakes. The Dell one will work though.

First of all I really appreciate how much effort you put in answering this thread until now

It would cost me about the same to just exchange the monitor for another one with display port 144hz
im looking at this:

Yeah, the adapters etc will add up in cost.

You linked amazon.co.uk earlier (so I've been talking in pounds), now you've linked .com? Where are you located?

You said you'll take a 25% hit to return your monitor?
If the 25% is less than 80quid, then you're probably better returning & buying something that will run DP to DP.

If the 25% is quite a bit more than 80, then the adapters might be a worthwhile consideration.

Which GPU do you have specifically? You linked a FreeSync monitor, which is AMD. If you have a nVidia card, you can still use the monitor of course, just kind of pointless to pay for the FreeSync aspect if you can't use it.

The monitor you linked is ~300GBP or USD and, if you're not interested in FreeSync (AMD) or GSync (nVidia), then something like this is a pretty smoking deal (in the UK): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-24-Inch-1080P-Full-Monitor/dp/B00P67ZW8M/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1490112420&sr=8-4&keywords=1080p+144hz+monitor

I was located in canada but right now its been 1 year in pakistan, Amazon or any decent site does not exist over here
i was giving the links just to get an idea what to buy in a hardware store here..
well the LED you linked is extremely decent for the price but the one i linked is the only option i have as the hardware stores dont sell a variety or products, and pc parts/ hardware costs are extremely high here, the one i linked will cost me about $400 ... but i guess its the best choice i have as im going with a GTX 1080TI and a 7700K and i cant afford 1440p due to extremely high prices
