Hi

I'm planning on using a GTX 1080 8GB card on 2 setup possiblity:

The 2 setup:
Setup A) 3 x 1440p monitor
Setup B) 3 x 1440p monitor + 1 x 4K TV

There are 4 usage Scenarios:
1) Setup A, gaming on only 1 monitor
2) Setup A, gaming on 3 x 1440p monitor
3) Setup B, gaming on 1 x 1440p monitor
4) Setup B, gaming on the 4K TV monitor.

*While gaming, the other "un-used" monitor will be running apps like:
- Youtube, Plex video
- Facebook messenger chat
- Watching movie through Media Player Classic full screen
- Music Player (Musicbee)

Will the GFX be beefy enough for the 4 scenarios?

*I'm wondering how much those extra monitor affect games FPS over a multi monitor setup BUT only gaming on 1 monitor. There isn't much information around that I could find, its only either see 1 monitor or 3 monitor gaming benchmark.

I do not expect epic pro FPS shooter grade benchmark. (Not a hardcore gamer)
But I do play games like Battlefield 1, Ark, and Nice graphics RPG etc...
Since this is a new pc build, I want it to look nice. 50% work, 50% gaming.

I know scenario 2 & 4 will not yield great FPS as 3 x 1440p is more than a 4K resolution.
An average 60fps for most games I would be satisfied and happy with it already.

Perhaps do I need to do a SLI setup (1070 x 2 ?) to make it comfortable?
How much vRam do I need for the GFX for these scenarios?

Thanks!

Oh, then a GTX 1080 8GB would be fine. I have a 1070 and...

I think even a GTX 1080 8GB would be hard pressed to run 3x1440p monitors on ultra settings for BF1. Perhaps medium settings or so. What sort of settings would you be looking at playing on? I would suggest a 1080 Ti 11GB, but don't get one of the early reference/founders models out right now.

Hi Kyle

Thanks for the quick respond.
I don't intend to run BF1 on all 3 monitors.
I would just game on the 1 center monitor, which is just 1440p.

However, I do not know how much extra "stress" would the other screen running idle desktop/browser or playing a movie/youtube would affect the gaming performance.

Oh, then a GTX 1080 8GB would be fine. I have a 1070 and run BF1 on a 1440p with a couple 1080s doing random stuff. Gaming on the one 1440p while idling or browsing/watching a show or movie on the others will not bottom a 1080 out.

I see, Thanks.

But do you see significant FPS difference gaming on only 1 monitor with and without the surround setup?

There's a difference, notably in VRAM usage, but it's really slight/negligible as long as you're just browsing/idling in the other monitors. I would say a few FPS if that. It has never been a big enough difference for me to notice or think about with my setup. But, your monitors will be higher res. Still, don't think they will impact the performance much.
