Windows 10 Laptop game fps locked at 25fps after sleep mode

I've only recently figured this out, but every time I close my laptop and it enters sleep mode, any game I play has it's framerate locked at about 20-25fps. Restarting fixes the issue, buts its very annoying having to restart and then reopen all my applications every time I decide to close my laptop or it enters seep mode. I was wondering if there is some setting I can change to fix this aside form disabling sleep mode entirely, as I need it to prevent overheating and battery drain when its in my backpack.
