I've got $600 I want to spend on either a new monitor or a new graphics card but I'm conflicted! I'd love to hear opinions.

I currently have a GTX 1060 6GB SC. It runs all my games at max settings 1080p 60fps, no problem, but it's not "future proof" per-se and it would be nice to have a top-of-the-line card, as well.

Now, my monitor is not so great. It's 1080p, 27 inches, but I get a lot of screen tearing and it just isn't up to the quality of a true gaming monitor. So I'm thinking get the ASUS ROG PG279Q 27" IPS 165Hz gaming monitor. I would have to drop $180 more than the $600, and I would be upgrading to 1440p from 1080p, so I'd tax my current card a lot more.

Do you really need GSync? Because it actually makes your experience worse at 100-120fps+ (increases input lag). If not, I might save some money and get something like this.

The GTX 1080 is by no means future proof fwiw, just look at the GTX 780 now. Having a GTX 1080 on a 1080p60 screeen would also be a waste, would be better to have the screen first because by the time you save up for a new GPU there should be a new line of cards out.

I've got this same setup and it is amazing! I highly recommend it! 1440p at 27" looks beautiful and once you have over 100Hz refresh rate you will never go back. G-sync is just a bonus and a very nice feature to have. Your 1080p on a 27" at 60Hz is going to look pretty trashy next to the PG279Q.

Thank you all for the advice! I decided to go with the graphics card first and then save up a bit and buy a good 1440p/144hz+ monitor! I'll be able to get maybe $200 for the GTX1060 that I'll be replacing, so that'll help.
