so I have a new gtx 1060 but the problem is my monitor has VGA and DVI-D slot. i have 2 option either buy a DVI-D Cable because my GPU has 2 port for it or buy DVI-D to HDMI that is cheaper. the question is should i buy DVI-D cable or DVI-D to HDMI cable ? and can the DVI-D to HDMI works vice versa ?

i want to take hdmi output from my gtx 1060 to DVI-D monitor

btw link to DVI-D to HDMI cable : https://ecs7.tokopedia.net/img/product-1/2017/1/4/2475171/2475171_2d3e2d8d-79b7-4119-8261-127c443b887b_2048_0.jpg

Solution

Either will work.

All HDMI devices are required to support DVI-D signalling. In fact, many GPUs and displays treat DVI-I/DVI-D and HDMI ports identically and select the feature set based on what's negotiated, the difference is purely mechanical.

well then, so ill buy the DVI-D to HDMI cable. Do i need to install the GPU driver for it too work ?

You'll want to install the GPU driver anyway, but the drivers that ship with the OS will work just fine until you do.
