Below is my PC build that I am planning on purchasing, the only dilemma really is the monitor in which to buy. I have been currently gaming on a laptop at 1080p 60hz with fps around 34 average. SO I was wondering if it would be worth getting the 1080p at 144hz or a 1440p at 60hz. They are currently around the same price, and I would like some advice. I know little to nothing in regards to displays so any advice would be appreciated.

What sort of games do you plan to be playing? FPS, RTS, RPG/MMORPGs?

Faster paced games like FPS and RTS, you'll see a huge benefit from the 144hz. Slower paced games, you might enjoy the beauty of 1440p@60hz a little more than the added frames per second.

For a 1440p @ 60hz I used this one. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2515Hx-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01M0LDXTL/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1490794559&sr=1-1&keywords=dell+2515hx
It's the same IPS panel as the one you've selected, just supports VESA, has better calibration out of box, better quality bezel and stand, and all around just a better monitor. The Acer would of course be the better budget option.

The Asus you've selected for the 144hz option is good, but you might want to consider a G-Sync monitor.

I wouldn't get a 27 inch 1080p screen and you plan to buy a gtx 1080 so i would get the 1440p screen. However you may get away with a 1070 running that resolution at 60hz. Even my 1060 can output more than 60fps at 1440p so the 1080 might be overkill.

With the games you play and the background (you're coming from low fps 1080p, not already having been using a 144hz/fps setup) I'd go with the 1440p @ 60hz IPS. You'll already have an fps gain over what you had, and you'll see your GPU truly shine displaying 1440p IPS (versus a TN panel). Had you been someone already using 144hz I'd say it would be hell going back to 60hz. When I got my GTX 1070 I took the 1440p@60hz IPS route and haven't looked back. I have no problems on BF1 (which is the only FPS I play. lol)
