Hello everyone!

I am looking to replace my old monitor soon, with a budget of 300 GBP. Since I have never experienced 144hz and I heard a lot of good things about it I decided I am going to get one.

I already found a good monitor, but it's 1440p, and I only have a GTX 1060 6GB.

Should I just go for 1080p instead? I really want the 1440p, also I love the design of it but I'm afraid the 1060 won't be enough.

If you think I should go with the 1080p, can you recommend me some 1080p 144hz monitors?

TN or IPS doesn't really matter.

i7 7700
Gtx 1060GB
16GB Ram

The only bottleneck would be the gpu

Thank you for taking your time to read my first world problem.

edit BLUF: go 1440, no questions.

I have a 1440p monitor with a 1070 being pushed by a 4 year old i-7, 16GB of system ram. I'm pretty much standard wide-open on everything. There are some games that get a little choppy at times... but I also run all my stuff windowed. My guess is that it will be fine.

I would not settle. (I'd rather a little chop than deal with more restricted resolution)

I don't like CS:GO or FPS games that much, but sometimes I play DOOM or Fallout 4.

I heard that 1060 is for 1080p, for 1440p you should go with at least a gtx 1070 or gtx 1080.
Also there is the 144hz part, which will be hard to cough out on some games

"GTX 1060 or RX 480 --> 1080p / ~60Hz
GTX 1070 --> 1080p / ~100Hz+ or 1440p / ~60Hz
GTX 1080 --> 1080p / ~120Hz+ or 1440p / ~100Hz+
GTX 1080Ti --> 1080p / ~120Hz+++ or 1440p / ~120Hz++"

Stick to 1080p 144hz. Even then, your GTX 1060 6gb is going to have a hard time pushing ultra settings. I'd imagine it'll do fine on high, though, on most titles. Really depends on particular settings.

Get a G-Sync monitor if you can, with your NVIDIA card. FreeSync and AdaptiveSync (monitor you linked) are for Radeon/AMD cards, and although monitors with that technology will still work with NVIDIA cards, it won't make use of their special software.

I agree with you but I don't know when I am going to get a new gpu, and after the first 1 week after my eyes get used to the 144hz and the big screen, I don't want choppy games and regrets.

Got the monitor, I don't like it that much. Any good 1080p 144hz recommendations ? I'm refunding this one, even though I love the design 1440p is just too bad for me.

What's your budget? Do you want GSync?

If they pay the postage when I refund then it's 300GBP. Otherwise around 280.Doesn't matter whether it's G-sync or not, I just want it to look decent, and be 1080p with 144hz refresh rate.

I lean more towards the Acer, but it's a tad over budget. Both are 24"

I'm really not sure which one to buy, I don't like the design of neither of them, but now it just sounds like I'm just
being picky.
I'm gonna sleep on it, and continue my search tomorrow, enough rage for today.

Besides, I'm not sure if G-sync is worth the price anyways.

Thanks for the help, I'm gonna stop relying on others and do my own research, sorry if I was a whiny little d*ck yesterday I haven't slept much.
