One monitor with two sources. One only active.

HI,

I currently have LG 34 ultrawide(lg34uc88). I would like to leverage monitor single display port for two machines. Machines will never be active at the same time.

I noticed there are splitters for same such as StarTech.com DisplayPort to DisplayPort Multi Monitor Splitter - 2-Port MST Hub - DP 1.2 to 2x DP MST Hub:

BUT i don't know if they are bidirectional. Meaning would I be able to use the display port portion and insert it into the monitor and then split it to two different machines

What you are looking for is a switch. For example https://www.amazon.com/SIIG-CE-KV0411-S1-2-Port-DisplayPort-Switch/dp/B007ZT1GQ6 It has a button on the back you use to switch between computer 1 and computer 2 to determine what is displayed on the monitor. Takes 2 inputs and give 1 output.
