I have recently purchased a 256GB Samsung 750 EVO SSD. I want to install my copy of Windows 10 on my SSD. I don't have a physical copy of Windows 10 and I haven't been successful in cloning since I'm taking it from a 1TB HDD that is almost full ti a 256GB SSD and I have no extra HDD to back-up my HDD. Will it work if I install my copy of Windows 7 with the disk and then use my key for Windows 10 that I was given when I upgraded to Windows 10 to upgrade to Windows 10?

Solution
Your windows 7license has already been upgraded to a windows 10 license, so all you need to do is make a windows 10 install DVD/USB:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Click the 2nd (+) symbol and follow those instructions to make a windows 10 install disk, then if/when it asks use the windows 7 key.

UNLESS your windows 7 key was acquired from an HP/Dell prebuilt computer (or any other prebuilt computer manufacturer) then you need to buy a new key.

I would, but I don't have the cash to buy a copy of Windows 10 and I upgraded to it when the upgrade was still free from Windows 7.

if you took the free upgrade then you can just install windows 10 and it'll activate once you connect the computer back to the internet
