Hi all,

Last night I was playing a game on my Octane III gaming laptop, which I had purchased from PC Specialists last year. I was playing when all of a sudden my screen went black and without any notifications or warnings, it completely switched off, the laptop was sitting on a desk so it was not moved in a particular way to make something loose.

The battery light was glowing orange, so I tried to turn it back on by pressing the power button, however; I heard a faint clicking sound within the computer somewhere and the glowing orange light flashed out. I held down the power button and the light just blinked as I held it down (accompanied by the clicking sound).

I know it is not the fault of the battery, but it could be the AC/DC adapter, it was very hot that day and could of sustained heat damage, therefore not supplying the laptop with power. I'm not sure.

Luckily I still have the warranty if I need to send it back, but I think I will order a new adapter first as I think it is the cause.

I have tried a hard reset and making sure each port was clear of any oxidization,

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

The clicking sound you hear is probably the fan(s) trying to spin up. The initial start of laptop fans usually clicks, but is harder to notice when they continue spinning.

You can try...

Heat and laptops aren't the best of friends as I'm sure you know. If you were indoors and not in the sun while playing your game that shouldn't be a huge concern, but it shouldn't be discounted.
Try taking out you laptop battery and just using the AC adapter to power it on (This would let you know if the battery was bad).

If that fails Try using just the battery and not the charger to power it on (This would let you know if the adapter was bad). Your battery should have retained some charge to try the simplest of tests. It should atleast give you a post screen.

If both of those methods fail call for your warranty plan for new battery and charger.

Ok thanks,

Yeah I wasn't in direct sunlight so i'm not sure.

I just tried the two methods...

The adapter on its own had the same thing, the orange light just glowed.

When I powered it on it just flashed.

As for the battery...

Same thing, its like the battery charges but then engulfs all the energy at once and it just goes away.

I have a feeling now that I will need to send it in.

The clicking sound probably means that electricity is jumping somewhere.

Thanks for the response anyway, I guess I will send it back and let you know the report.

The clicking sound you hear is probably the fan(s) trying to spin up. The initial start of laptop fans usually clicks, but is harder to notice when they continue spinning.

You can try to remove all power - AC charger and battery, then hold down your laptop power on button for 30 seconds. This clears all power left in your laptop (board, chips, memory, etc.). Then you can try the 2 methods before, but be sure to clear the extra power each time.

That's all I got for you. I hope you didn't get Mountain Dew in it.
Don't unscrew anything! If this simple stuff doesn't work; It's well worth shipping and handling to use that warranty.

Best Luck,
Harrison

Yeah I tried all that before unfortunately.

lmao don't worry I take care in my PC.

I value it.

Anyway, I sent it off this a couple of hours ago, so we'll see what the report says.

Thanks for your time.
