cant connect my xbox one s controller to pc.

i've downloaded the xbox accessories app, used a data cable. tried multiple ports on my pc. and still the only thing it does is the controller vibrates when i connect it and the app still stays at the connect a controller to get started screen. help would be appreciated before i throw my pc out the window. thanks

The XBONES controller is bluetooth. Try purchasing a bluetooth dongle (10-20$) and than try.

i just dont see why i would have to buy a blue tooth dongle... why wouldnt a usb cable just work?
