External storage: SSD VS Rugged HDD

Hey guys,
Would like your input on external storage which would be frequently transported around (ie not a backup drive). I'm a photographer and trying to weigh up the pros and cons including cost of SSDs which are more expensive but I guess more reliable? And rugged hard drives which are slightly cheaper for the amount of storage but I'm not sure if rugged hard drives would be equivalent in terms of physical protection for the data compared to Solid State, I know cheap external HDDs get damaged extremely easily, recently lost one myself with a lot of data on it

I've been looking at the LaCie rugged drives and Samsung T3 SSDs but any other options would be appreciated

I would chose ssd they are lots more reliable and much faster thats just my oppinion but if you need lots of storage like a 1tb go with a hdd an ssd of that size will get very pricey

for the price several USB flash drives might be better, duplicate everything on more than one drive.

If you don't need fast access and can get a decent connection, online storage is the answer, if not then cheap large capacity encrypted? USB pen drives.
