Is it possible to have a RAID 1 with a SSD and Sata Drive of same size to be able to reap the rewards of operating with SSD, but also have the confidence of Mirrored drive on SATA Drive?

Thinking of Samsung 500GB SSD and WD black 500 GB Sata Drive

Is it possible to put them in a RAID.....yes. Is it a good idea.....not at all.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and a RAID is only as fast as its slowest drive. You'd be much better off just running off the SSD and setup a backup to the SATA drive. Otherwise, you'll get zero benefit from the SSD and might as well just do two HDDs.

Perhaps you should consider a program that'll run daily and image the complete SSD onto the HDD, so you can boot from it if the SSD were to ever fail.
