Getting 144hz with a dvi-d to displayport cable?

Hi,

I have Z170A Gaming M3 motherboard which doesn't have displayport. I'm planning to buy a 1080p 144hz monitor. If I use a dvi-d to displayport cable can I reach 144hz? Would it be good as a displayport cable?

A digital display, despite being a HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort or DVI-D/DVI-D, will post to 144Hz.
