So, say I need to name a file "My Word Document V1.2," then go back later after adding some more stuff to it "V1.3" etc. Basically versions.

How do I do this?

Solution
You add a period when you are saving as, literally just type My Word Document V1.2

if for some reason that isn't working try My Word Document V1.2.docx

^ Yeah, a period isn't one of the 'banned' keys for file names.

When using periods in names though, I find it useful to "show extensions for known file types", so you can appreciate that the file type is actually .docx and not a fictional ".2" or ".3" file.
