This happens a couple of times per week, I'll leave the laptop on, come back and the Bios screen is up.

Powering off is the only way out of it and then the system reboots, bypassing my Linux Grub menu, straight into Windows again (which takes forever).

The system event viewer has this error message:

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{8D8F4F83-3594-4F07-8369-FC3C3CAE4919}
and APPID
{F72671A9-012C-4725-9D2F-2A4D32D65169}
to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

I've Googled this and there are a few registry fixes offered as solutions however I get access/permission denied when editing this part of the registry.

Any suggestions welcome!

Nothing changed, nothing configured, this is a seemingly random event, not a CPU heat issue either, the machine can run fine for days. The crashing happened before I installed Linux.

I dont see how, Linux was installed on a completely separate partition. Windoze doesn't even know it is there and it did it before I even installed an alternative OS.

Still no solutions to this then? It just happened again, error in the event log:

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{6B3B8D23-FA8D-40B9-8DBD-B950333E2C52}
and APPID

to the user NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE SID (S-1-5-19) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
