Does a 4k monitor displaying a 1080p image consumes more energy than a 1080p monitor displaying the same 1080p image?.

Hello!, I have a question about power consumption. Does a 4k monitor displaying a 1080p image consumes more energy than a 1080p monitor displaying the same 1080p image?.

I know that the 4k monitor has 4 times as many pixels as a 1080p monitor, but, probably a single pixel from a 4k monitor consumes 1/4 of the energy as a single pixel from a 1080p monitor, resulting in the same power consumption when displaying the same 1080p image. Please share some insight.

A 4k monitor has to upscale 1080p, drive four times as many pixels and has twice as much space on the panel used for pixel wiring, which means some added power for the resolution scaling and extra light loss through the panel. All else being equal, I wouldn't be surprised if a 4k display used ~10W more than a native 1080p one while displaying 1080p.
