I have happily owned many DELL machines. But one of the things I dislike about the branded pre-built PCs is all the crap that they put on their standard image: trial versions of software, branded utilities, etc.
I recently had cause to re-image my 4-year old DELL laptop. It had been purchased with Windows 8, and subsequently upgraded to Windows 10 during the free period. I wasn't going to go back to the DELL system-recovery CD, even if I could find it.
So instead I just downloaded and put a fresh Windows 10 install on. It worked brilliantly. Windows instantly recognized that my hardware had a valid operating system license, and everything worked like a charm. I didn't have to re-install a single driver. And all of the DELL-isms were gone!
It made me wonder. Did I just get lucky? Or should I follow the purchase of any pre-built system with an immediate re-image with base Windows 10?
Any thoughts?
