Reinstalling programs installing to wrong drive

My HHD was failing so I cloned it. Windows 10 assigned another letter to the new drive and won't let me use the old letter. I tried to use Virtualbox, but it wasn't working even though I fixed the target drive, etc. Now, when I try to reinstall the program, it tries to install to E: even though there is no E:. I don't see a way to make it install to D:. Must be something in the registry with Virtualbox. Where do I find it?

Thanks!

1. "Windows 10 assigned another letter to the new drive and won't let me use the old letter"
You did something wrong with the clone operation. It should have resulted in the new drive having the same drive letter as the old drive

2. What does VirtualBox have to do with anything, aside from it being just another application? Does this happen with any other applications?
