I emailed Rosewill (makers of the Thor V2 case) & they very quickly emailed an answer back, but it seems to differ from what other's have said. Rosewill support told me this:
(Thank you for contacting Rosewill. Thor V2-White requires an onboard USB3.0 20pin motherboard header. It will not be compatible with MSI Z270 SLI Plus. If you still require any assistance, please feel free to reply directly to this email.)

So... apparently it has something to do with the pin connector? I looked at the MSI Z270 SLI Plus motherboard manual and it has a rectangular connector with what looks to be a USB 3 connector, except the bottom right 20th pin is not there, it only has 19 actual pins.
Here is a screenshot of the USB 3 connector from the MSI Z270 SLI Plus motherboard:

I've been told online & read from MSI's website that:
USB 3.0 is now called USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Speed up to 5Gbps)
USB 3.1 is now called USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Speed up to 10Gbps)

Could Rosewill's support just be wrong or at least unaware of the name/wording of USB 3/USB 3.1 Gen 1?
After realizing that 3.1 Gen 1 is the exact same as 3.0, I'm just really confused by Rosewill's response.
