Hello everyone,

I want to buy a new monitor but these day's monitors have gained a lot of different aspects and features like the G-Sync, Free sync and all that kind of stuff... are those worth the price for them?

What I'm looking for is 1440p, as I owe a 1080p monitor ATM and will continue to use it as a secondary monitor, preferably 144hz. From what I read the TN panels are not very good and the best option is IPS? Also with the below specs should I go for more than 144hz?

i7 4790k - oc to 4.7Ghz
GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition
16GB 1600mhz Corsair RAM

I'm looking at price up to about £600/700 but happy to see different options as well.

Seeing as you have a 1080ti you should definitely go for a high refresh rate screen. If you want the best of the best then look at the Asus PG297Q.
Its a 27" 1440p IPS panel. It has gsync, its 165hz panel with a 4ms response time (GTG). IPS screens are in general more suited to games like witcher 3, GTA V and ghost recon: Wildlands. These types of games with good graphics and visual qualities.

On the other hand you have the Dell S2716DG which is also a 27" 1440p gsync screen. But this one uses a 144hz TN based panel with a 1ms response time. These TN based screens is usually better suited for esports type...

A lot has been said about the pros and cons of IPS and TN based panels and both are good for certain applications. In the end it's going to come down that. What you want to use it for and what you are willing to pay for it. Personally I would go for the Asus screen because I think its the best 1440p gsync screen currently available. But other's opinions may differ. Take a look at the link below which has a lot of info on different monitor options.

TNs came a long way and are better than people on the internet make them.
Also IPS is a bit overhyped imo especially the high refresh rate ones.
They did a test when buying 10 PG279Qs (which are arguably the best screens in their category) and 5 of them had severe issues, only 3 of them were flawless.
High refresh IPS panels are just complicated to make and error prone.
I'd rather go for a VA panel instead
But there ain't one with G-SYNC yet (except for ultrawides)
