1440p @ 60hz or 1080p @ 144hz

Hello
I've just finished building my new computer and now I want to upgrade my monitor. I have a budget of around £250 and I'm based in the UK.
From what I've seen I can either get a 144hz 1080p monitor or a 60hz 1440p monitor. Unfortunately 1440p @ 144hz is out of my price range. I would like a monitor which has amd freesync.

So which would be best for me?
Also any recommendations as to which model to buy?

I play gta5, csgo, skyrim

Current monitor is hp 23xi

Computer is as follows
CPU: Ryzen 5 1600
Memory: 16gb ddr4 2400
Graphics: Msi gaming rx580 8gb
Motherboard: Msi mortar b350m
Storage: 120gb ssd and 1tb hard drive
PSU: seasonic m12 evolution 520w

The plan is to eventually upgrade graphics to vega near end of year.

Well at max settings the rx580 will struggle @1440p

For Skyrim and GTA V I'd rather have 1440p, for csgo I'd rather have 144Hz
So it depends on what you weight over the other

On that budget, you can't get a 1440p FreeSync monitor. Gotta get 1080p based on your games. I'd get this:

I can get this monitor for £270 which is just over my budget. It's 144hz and 1440p but it saying the following
. The AG241QX also supports Adaptive-Sync technology to eliminate tearing, stuttering and input lag.

Is this the same as amd freesync?
Will it work with a rx580?

Yes that monitor has Freesync. And it'll work extremely well with a rx580. Once you use a monitor like this you'll never go back to slower jittery ones.
