Hello all,

I am having some problems with what should be a simple thing i have done in the past. i have my windows activated Windows 7 pc, and i use the free Microsoft media creation tool to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. It downloads it does its thing, acts like its half way through installing then it "recovers old version of windows (windows 7)" and it restarts and im back on windows 7, once i log in says error we could not install windows 10 due to "Failure in second boot phase ...or during boot operation phase" something like that i cant remember word for word. What is going on ? im confused.

Thank you for any help and advice.

Yes i do, it says windows is activated. I have the Windows 7 bootfiles on my USB flash drive, which is how i installed it in the first place. Usually after this just doing the windows 10 upgrade Assistance works :/

Totally forgot about that "backway" to get Windows 10. Anywho, I still recommend using the USB stick as a bootable disk and loading Windows from that, instead of inside Windows 7.
