Hey guys!

I just bought a msi gtx 1080 ti and I'm now in the market for a new monitor. I have looked at two monitors that I want to buy, but I can't decide which one to go for. I'm not a competitive gamer at all. I going to play Witcher 3, GTA 5, Dark souls, WoW, Watch dogs 2 etc. These are the monitors I have looked at:

- Acer XB271HU (1440p, 165hz, G-sync, IPS)
- Acer XB271HK (4K, 60hz, G-sync, IPS)

My most important components:
- Gtx 1080 ti
- i7 6700k (4,5 ghz)
- 16 gb 3200 mhz ram

Which one do you think I should go for?

Thanks!

Well, the super expensive 4k 144hz is more future proof. Getting 100+FPS will be a challenge for some current and future AAA games with 1080Ti. That said, I played 200+ hours of Witcher 1, 2, and 3 combined at 3440 x 1440 with avg. of around 70FPS in 3(not sure 1 and 2) and had a great experience. Didn't try those games with 4k, just playing ME Andromeda now, first 4k game for me. I don't have experience with 100Hz + monitors though, so no comments there.
This debate will go on for sure :) That said, I'm using a 4k G-sync 60hz myself with my 1080 OC'd. I was using a 60hz 3440 x 1440 Ultrawide no G-Sync until about a month ago. Very happy with my decision to switch, though Ultrawide was still great. The 4k and G-Sync are worth it in my opinion given my gaming use, also not competitive. I play similar games as you. This being said, with a 1080Ti, you're likely going to lose G-sync benefits as many games you'll be maxing out the 60Hz. Not sure the budget, but have you considered waiting for the 4k 144Hz screens due later this year?

My budget is around 1000 $. The new 4k monitors with 144hz, HDR and G-sync are going to be very expensive I think, probably 1600 $ ++. That's a lot of money for one monitor, but holy crap what a experience that must be!

I know what you mean, I'm guessing similar price as well. I got my monitor for $860 shipped I believe. Probably a fantastic experience if you have lots of GPU power for the 144Hz 4k HDR. Regarding your question though, all I can say is to me, the image quality of 4k is noticeably better than my previous 1440P. I wouldn't go back. That said, Windows 10 still has odd scaling issues with 4k in desktop applications, some browsers, ect. Not a deal breaker for me, but definitely noticable. Screens with 1440P have no issue with this to my knowledge and experience.

Yeah, I've heard about the scaling issues with 4k. Don't think that's gonna hold me back from buying a 4k monitor, but on the other hand the lack of high frame rates. I have tried gaming on both 4k and 1440p, and the image quality is much better with 4k imo, but 100 fps++ is also beautiful and orgasmic! Guess I want the best of both worlds, so maybe the best is to wait for the 4k 144hz monitors and save more money until it's on the market. BUT, a gtx 1080 ti will have problems to power up 100 fps ++ in new AAA titles in 4k in the future. And the question is do I need 100 fps++ in RPG's to have an awesome experience? I'm not sure, but I think 60 fps is enough.
