I have ASUS K501UX (i don't know exact versions of supported HDMI cables, currently using 1.4, and it seems not to be able to shoot 120Hz; no DP in laptop, of course), and i've tired of tearing problems (especially in Overwatch).
I'm thinking about building a new rig, but it needs time to make money, so, i'm looking for some transitive and temporary solution.
I'm thinking about buying 144Hz FullHD monitor for the next rig, but can i use it with laptop on 120Hz FullHD? What type of HDMI do i need, and is this even possible to make 120Hz from ths laptop via HDMI?

Hdmi 1.4 is capable of 144hz 1080p. Although it is capable of this a lot of monitors don't support 144hz through hdmi (I have no clue why) the only monitor I know uses hdmi at 144hz is the ViewSonic XG2401. Hope this helped
