Dvi port problem, no idea about dvi

I bought a msi gtx1050 ti oc 4gb videocard, and it has a display port, a dvi port and hdmi port. I currently have a vga monitor so i would like to use it before I could buy a new monitor. I would like to know, what dvi port do I have? It has 24 pins and a flat one, my brother bought a cable with dvi, but it has 24 pins and 4 more in the flat one, and it does not fit the card. Is my dvi port called dvi i? And should i buy a 24 + 1 pin dvi cord?

You have DVI-D. Those four pins around that flat blade carry the analog signal DVI-I uses. Nvidia has dropped all support for VGA/Analog in their current cards. An active DVI to VGA adapter will work.

So i have to have a dvi i adaptor? 24 + 1 pin or 24 +4 pin? My card has a slot for 24 pins + a flat one.

to verify look at the wikipedia article for DVI. you will se the diagrams of each version of the DVI ports. just match up the port to whats on your GPU
