Looking for a monitor upgrade. Budget is around $300 CAD - would prefer not the spend more.

Awesome sale going on right now for this 144Hz monitor. Looks great for the price. But there is also the risk of purchasing a refurbished item:

This is basically the same thing, but with a much better stand and build quality, at 30 bucks more.

This is a 25" 1440p, and the cheapest 1440p panel I could find.

This one is a 4K panel. Not the best, but it looks like a really good deal to me.

I dunno. You guys got any ideas? It'll mostly be for school work and media consumption, but also a bit of Overwatch on the weekends. I might look into other games some time down the line. I heard that 144Hz is like good sound - once you've heard/seen it, you never go back. But I'm worried about the pixel density, coming from a 25" Ultrawide. I also have a 17" or 18" 4:3 monitor lying around, so I could pair that with any 1080p monitor I get. The 1440p panel looks great, but is 2560 x 1440 good at 25 inches? I really like the 4K monitor, but I dunno how well my 290X will fare at that resolution. Will I be able to run Overwatch at around 45 FPS on medium settings? How does rendering at 75%, 50% or 25% look? Will rendering at 1440p look worse than it would on a native 1440p monitor?

Thanks.

An awesome sale on a 1080p monitor is like an awesome sale on DVD players... er, yeah. Seriously, 1080p is effectively as dead as the DVD. So don't even look at them. You want to be 1440p at the best refresh rate you can.

I not so sure 4k makes a whole heap of sense at the moment

I would have to disagree. Lots of people are still gaming at 1080p, and I'd get 1080p 144hz over 1440p 60hz any day. And I say forget about 4k. It's not worth it. 1440p 144hz would be best though.
