Hi guys!

Well, it's that time again. :) My current PC has served me well the past seven years, but I think it's about time that I get a new one. I've likely got a two to four month wait before I actually buy, and I intend to research parts and overall system design in great detail during that span of time. But I figured I would come here and get some initial suggestions / advise since I'm definitely not up to date on what's been going on with PC Gaming builds these days.

I'm planning around a -decent- budget, but I'm far more focused on building something that is a good value and that will meet my needs. I've included all the requested details in the questionnaire below. Any help, advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a nice day!

Approximate Purchase Date: August / September

Budget Range: $1200 - $1400 CAD (before taxes)

System Usage from Most to Least Important:

-- Final Fantasy XIV
-- Sims 4, 3, Medieval
-- Borderlands series
-- Occasional YouTube video / vlogs
-- Google Chrome / iTunes / Writing novels / watching movies / YouTube / Netflix

Are you buying a monitor:

I may be doing this, but it would be part of a separate budget. I'm legally blind and use a tv as a monitor. My current one is a 37" HDTV @ 720p.

Parts to Upgrade:

I'm building a completely new PC. My parents or my aunt will get my old one.

Do you need to buy OS:

Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts:

http://www.canadacomputers.com -- Because of my disabilities, I prefer having my PCs built over physically building them myself. I do enjoy the part selection process, though.

Location:

Napanee, Ontario, Canada

Parts Preferences:

Historically I've built with AMD, but I am not opposed to Intel designs, either.

Overclocking:

No. I'm not likely to touch that.

SLI or Crossfire:

No. I plan to buy one good graphics card.

Your Monitor Resolution:

My current screen is 720p. When I buy my new one it will likely be 720 or 1080 and I'll decide which way to run it based on my vision issues.

Additional Comments:

I built my last machine in 2010 so I'm out of the loop about what is worth buying. Do I want one of the new Ryzen processors? Has Intel totally overtaken AMD for gaming in the time I've been gone? What do I need realistically to get a good experience with the types of games I play at the resolution(s) I'm likely to use?

I'm likely to keep my machine for 4-5 years unless something new comes out that I want which acts as a wall, requiring me to upgrade sooner.

I want a case with USB and headphone ports in the front.

I would prefer a less noisy PC if possible since I find it easier to leave the machine on while recording video (I do lists on various topics for a group Youtube channel).

I would prefer that my case has a flat top. (Random but important).

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading:

My current PC is starting to show its age and is having a bit of trouble with FFXIV. Stormblood (latest expansion) is releasing in late June and I've little doubt that's gonna up the stress. Since I'm not really physically tech savvy (legally blind, cerebral palsy, arthritis in hands) I'm not as prone to upgrade a machine piece by piece. It's time for my old machine to retire (go to parents or aunt) and for a new system to take its place.
