I just thought it might be fun to play some games in 4k, i just bought a GTX 1080 and i think it might be able to handle it.

I have a high speed HDMI connecting the TV to the gpu but i can't seem to have both displays at different resolutions or play games on the TV side of things

That's probably because your monitor is set as the primary display device, hence the game automatically runs in the primary display. You can try to run the game in windowed mode and drag it over to the TV, or you could set the TV as the primary display device in the control panel of your graphics chipset (Nvidia control panel).

This'll be the best way to fix this issue. Just set your TV as primary display, and restart the game. Should fix it.
