I am wanting to build a new PC, still keeping it for a gaming PC But I am doing a lot more 4k and HD video editing lately using Premier. My old PC is a decent build at the time (4 years old now) but with an upgraded R9 390:

My new build I am wanting to make is here notably with a Ryzen7 but I was curious if keeping the old R9 390 was a bad idea?

I have that build above speced with a new graphics card the rx 480. Though I am wondering how big a leap if any over the R9 390 I have would that be. I am hoping the update in ram (speed and quantity) in addition to ryzen and new mobo would make a notable difference sans upgrading the graphics card.

Not sure where else to ask, so I asked here...

Everything I saw seemed to indicate that but I wasn't sure if I was missing something. Ty so much!!! I will probably just build out with new mobo ram and cpu. (SSD too, I think my current on performs poorly). Ty for the information!

Thanks, I was planning on upgrading to a 4k monitor at some point in time (sooner than later). Though I am not sure the rx 480 is great at 4k gaming. Plus just to run windows in 4k I am guessing the R9 390 can do that fine.

IMHO for 1080 gaming, no, you don't need a new GPU. But the 1070 and the 1080 are so far MUCH more suited to resolutions OVER 1080p.

That's really the future.

I could see this as being true. Though, if I am running AMD I would want to keep it all AMD and would go with the Radeon equiv, which Id on't think is out yet ? Or far to expensive. My R9 is a little over a year old, I am guessing it would get me a few more years of at least solid 1080 gaming, and good 4k desktop performance and maybe 1080/4k video editing.
