21:9 Display Questions

I'm looking to replace my current 27" 144Mhz monitor with something bigger. While it may just be a 30-32" curved 1080p model, one of my choices is a 21:9 model: https://www.amazon.com/AOC-C3583FQ-Curved-Monitor-2560/dp/B01G6E4UPE
(The $700 price tag is the most I'm willing to pay to upgrade.)
So two questions regarding 2560x1080 resolution:
1) For games that don't support the 21:9 aspect ratio, it would be displayed in (1920x) 1080 with black fields on either side?
2) Presumably most, discreet GPU's from the last few years would be compatible? In this case, mine is a slightly older Nvidia GT750M (2GB). (I run HDMI from my notebook to the external monitor.)
Thanks much in advance!

here is a 200hz one. This might be a little too high but it has great colour at 99,9% SRGB and it's ultra wide curved ;)

Oh fuck, a 750 with a ultrawide. Umm, what games are you playing - I don't think that card will handle a 2560x1080 let alone a 3440x1440.
1. Most games will support the aspect ratio if not I see a lot of old games stretching it, I think you can change that in the Nvidia control panel though.
2. This tiny GPU is trying to support your native laptop screen while also a large ultrawide - sorry I don't think a 750 can do that.

Thanks, MrDitto. I figured that old GPU wasn't up to snuff for it. It sounds like until I am ready to upgrade my laptop (waiting for a more of the Max-Q models to come out), I'm better off with a slightly larger 16:9 at 1080p for now. Not playing any demanding FPS games-most are older Steam titles. It's a Lenovo Y510p and believe it or not, I get decent performance from Watchdogs 2 at custom/medium settings-and running off an external USB 3 drive at that!

Yeah, I am sure that will perform fine. You have the most unusual setup I've heard on a PC forum. You game with a laptop - you want an external monitor for the laptop to run and you play games from an external 3.0 drive. Wow :p Good luck, obviously this isn't what you want to hear but I would get a desktop because then you can upgrade when you want, not so easy with a laptop. Too-da-loo. Have a great day.

Keep in mind that since screen sizes are measured diagonally, a 27 inch 16:9 monitor will be about the same height as a 34 inch 21:9 monitor. You'll only be gaining area horizontally. If you need to run a game at 16:9 on a 34 inch 21:9 screen, it will be almost the exact same size as your existing 27 inch monitor. A 35 inch 21:9 screen should be slightly taller, but only by about 1cm (0.4 inches). Just something else to keep in mind. : D

I'd like to point out that you actually need a pretty hefty GPU to run a 21:9 monitor even @ 1080p. I bought one to try and where I normally get 100+ fps in games I was getting around 40-50. Something with that resolution.
