After I accidentally turned off my computer at the plug it will get stuck on a black screen with a little white symbol near the centre, it looks like the symbol at the end of your sentence when you type.

Immediately after turning the computer on it will idle on the motherboard logo screen for longer than usual and then proceed to the previously mentioned black screen, there is no signal to my mouse or keyboard.

Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it?

Update: power has been restored to my mouse and keyboard with the led animation for my mouse working, however neither of them are responding.

Likely you turned off your machine during a critical issue, if you're not able to load or boot then the MBR is likely damaged. If you're getting past the BIOS it's likely not a hardware issue.

Fixing the MBR will reset it to factory default and likely fix the issue: https://neosmart.net/wiki/fix-mbr/

If it doesn't work, you may need to do a clean install of the OS.

In the future, you should be utilizing a backup solution. Either a disk imager (i.e. Macrium Reflect) or a snapshot tool (i.e. Rollback Rx)
